Altercation at Tournament Inn

Kamloops RCMP are looking for a suspect after an altercation sent an officer to hospital.
Today, November 4th, at 5:20 pm a Kamloops police officer was outside of the Tournament Inn, located on the East TransCanada Highway. The officer noted a group of suspicious people in the parking lot and approached them to investigate. This led to an attempt to detain a male suspect. The suspect allegedly became violent and a struggle ensured. During this altercation the suspect produced a handgun. The officer reportedly pulled his sidearm and shots were fired. The suspect fled the scene. It is unknown if the suspect went into a room at the Tournament Inn or if he left the area.
This situation is very fluid as the suspect has not been located yet. The officer suffered a non life threatening injury from the altercation. He did not received any gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local medical facility but has since been released.
Kamloops RCMP have set a perimeter around the hotel and are searching the area for the suspect. They are asking the public to avoid the area. Kelowna ERT is on scene at the Tournament Inn.
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, brown hair, 6’1, 180 lbs
